In the 1950’s and 1960’s the UK saw an increase in the number of Indians settling in the UK leaving their families and homes behind, this often included land. Some brought their families over to settle here and integrated into the UK society. Their children and grandchildren subsequently remained in the UK. These NRI’s are often unsure what property or land they are or could be entitled to, being first, second and third generation and therefore not aware of the Indian Law or procedures. Coupled with being unable to travel or stay in India for a long period of time and added corruption, it can often be a frustrating and expensive process. Apart from land issues, there are several others including divorce, family inheritance, investing in business etc.- ensuring that one gets the proper legal advice is essential.
