Nihal Arthanayake is an award winning broadcaster, journalist, DJ and a long-standing authority on Asian music. He presents the weekday morning show on the BBC Asian Network, hosting discussion and debate on the big issues affecting British Asians. He is a regular presenter on BBC Radio 5 Live, hosting slots including Weekend Breakfast and in 2015 made his debut hosting Sunday Politics London.

Nihal was also a mainstay of the BBC Radio 1 schedule for over 12 years hosting a variety of shows including Asian Beats, The Review Show and Weekend Breakfast. His radio shows have won him ‘Best Speech Programme’ and ‘The Specialist Music Award’ at the Sony Radio Academy Awards. He has also won ‘Best Radio Show’ at the UK Asian Music Awards. His TV credits also include reporting for the BBC at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games; The Wright Stuff filling in for host Matthew Wright on Channel 5; Nihal’s City Swagger for London Live; and as contributor to This Week and Newsnight for BBC1 and BBC2 respectively. Not being limited to broadcasting, Nihal sits on the board of London’s Southbank Centre, and was a cultural ambassador for the successful London 2012 Olympic Bid.

He has performed as a DJ all over the world, including on stage at The Isle of Wight Festival, Bestival and Glastonbury here in the UK.
