People hate the Inheritance tax! Ipsos Mori finds that 69% think taxing an estate after death is unfair, passionately wanting to pass on their life savings, seeing IHT as double tax. It’s odd, when “hard work” is the overpowering ethic, that gifting unearned lump sums to children who may be lazy drones is seen as a virtue, elevating luck above enterprise and effort. Why is earning £650,000 taxed, but not if you don’t work for it? Still, that’s how people feel. David Cameron has raised the possibility that it would increase the threshold for inheritance tax to £1m in 2014. If this hold true, it will likely be the first step towards it eventual abolition. Do you think a reform worth it or a removal necessary?
